Minutes 3/17/2009

March 17, 2009

 

The Morris County Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at 9:00 a.m., all members present.

 

The minutes of the March 10th meeting were approved (Hay, Revere) as presented.

 

Action was taken (Revere, Hay) to eliminate the first Monday of the month as a regular meeting day on a trial basis.  The commission meeting on the first Tuesday of the month will begin at 8:30 a.m.

 

John Lee gave the weekly noxious weed and solid waste reports.  The household hazardous waste collection date has been changed to April 16th.

 

Action was taken (Revere, Hay) to contract with Vance Brothers to chip/seal approximately 20 miles of roads in the county for a cost of $266,136.15.  The county will provide the chips for the project.  This year’s chip/seal rotation includes G Ave (Woodbine Rd) from White City west to Hwy 77.  Other bids received included APAC ($327,031.56) and Hi Plains ($300,786). 

 

Bids were reviewed for chips as follows:

 

Hamm - $12.25/ton with delivery charges of 2.00/T to the White City

                mixing strip and 5.95/T to the Council Grove shop

 

APAC - $9.20/ton with delivery charges of 9.20/T to the White City

                mixing strip and 6.85/T to the Council Grove shop

 

Action was taken (Hay, Revere) to accept Hamm’s bid for 4,300 ton of chips at $12.25/t for a total of $52,675 at the White City quarry, and APAC’s quote of $16.05 for 800 ton of chips, a total of $12,840, delivered to the Council Grove shop.

 

The Sheriff was appointed (Revere, Hay) to serve as backup to the county emergency management coordinator.  The sheriff is serving as the interim Coordinator until the position is filled.

 

Commissioners toured the county health department and the extension offices.

 

The meeting adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
