Minutes 05/26/2009 The Morris County Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at 9:00 a.m., all members present.
Laura Marks, Extension Director, reported that an office professional for the department has been hired, and a 4-H program assistant position has been filled. Marks also reviewed several events and activities the agency is working on.
The minutes of the May 19th meeting were approved (Hay, Revere) as presented. Motion carried.
Laura Allen, County Attorney, followed up on her request for a salary increase. The request was denied at this time. Salaries will be reviewed during the annual budget process.
The commission meeting was relocated to the meeting room at 11:00 a.m. Elected officials and department supervisors participated in a NIMS training session until 2:00 p.m.
Ed Teghtmeyer and Jeff Blosser gave the weekly road department report. Right-of-way documents have been mailed to landowners adjoining the Rock Creek Bridge (64 C-4570-01) project site. Utility relocation notices have also been sent. The project is scheduled to be let on December 16, 2009.
Action was taken (Revere, Hay) to appoint the commissioners, with Commissioner Revere as chairman, to serve as the selection committee to consider firms to provide construction inspection services on project 64 C-4570-01. Motion carried. The committee reviewed and evaluated letters of interest from Cook, Flatt & Strobel, BG Consultants, Kaw Valley Engineers and Schwab-Eaton.
Action was taken (Revere, Hay) to appoint the commissioners, with Commissioner Jost as chairman, to serve as the negotiating committee to rank the firms selected to be considered. Motion carried. BG Consultants was chosen to conduct the inspection services.
After all minimum maintenance roads are reviewed the county will begin the process for signing them pursuant to Kansas statutes.
KDOT officials have verified 10% of the county’s bridges against the last biennial bridge inspection report. The county will receive a copy of the completed report.
A reception was held for Ed Teghtmeyer, road superintendent, who will retire after 11 years of service on May 30th.
