Minutes 08/14/2009

The Morris County Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at 9:00 a.m., all members present.

 

Laura Marks, Extension Director, gave an update of activities the agency will be involved in.  A proposed item to be added to the 4-H program is a shooting sports project.

 

County Resolution 2009-10 was passed and adopted (Revere, Hay) which provides for the funding of the county’s 2010 budget.  Motion carried.

 

The minutes of the August 4 and August 11 meetings were approved (Hay, Revere),   Motion carried.

 

John Lee gave the weekly solid waste and noxious weed reports.  A test plot will be set up to test a variety of chemicals on Sericea Lespedeza which has been designated as a noxious weed in the county. 

 

Jeff Blosser, road engineer, and Marvin Barlow, road foreman, gave the weekly report of the highway department.   They were authorized (Hay, Revere) to purchase a new tire machine from the Parts Place for $3,399.  Motion carried. 

 

Authorization was also given (Hay, Revere) for the purchase of two portable generators, not to exceed a total of $1,400, to operate the fuel pumps at the county shop during power outages.  Motion carried.

 

Don Jenkins discussed a road issue.

 

Cindy Jenkins of Aldrich & Co. presented the county’s 2008 audit report.  Overall, it was a “clean” audit.

 

Jennifer Kassebaum, emergency management coordinator, was notified by the Kansas Department of Emergency Management (KDEM) that there was not sufficient damage state-wide due to the August 11th storm to qualify for a Presidential Declaration.  There must be at least 3 million dollars damage statewide to quality for reimbursement.  Morris County sustained over $70,000 damage due to the storm.

 

The county received a grant from FEMA in the amount of $5,000 for a Resource Typing project.

Resource typing is categorizing and listing, by capability, equipment and other resources available for use in the event of an incident.
