The County Road Superintendent supervises the County Road and Bridge Department that constructs and maintains:

  • 850 miles of gravel road;
  • 75 miles of asphalt road;
  • 75 miles of dirt/minimum maintenance roads; and
  • 158 bridges in Morris County — encompassing 700 square miles in the heart of the Flint Hills.

Morris County has 10 motor patrol districts, each responsible for approximately 100 miles of road:

  • 2 each at Council Grove, Dwight, and White City; and
  • 1 each at Latimer, Delavan, Burdick and Wilsey.

The Road and Bridge Department is responsible for:

  • Road and bridge construction plans;
  • Providing information on road plans and right of way;
  • Right of way mowing and cleaning;
  • Inspection, repair and replacement of bridges;
  • Snow removal;
  • Establishment and posting of speed limits;
  • Sign design installation and repair; and
  • Construction, repair, resurfacing & road maintenance.
